A finish, applied only where the roof is a candidate
A roof coating is a membrane applied to a cleaned, repaired tiled roof to restore the colour and seal the surface. From the street it is often the stage people notice first. It only belongs on a roof that has already been put into a condition that can take it.
That means broken tiles dealt with, pointing in order, and the surface cleaned back. Coating over dirt, failed mortar or a covering that is at the end of its life is not useful. If your roof is not a candidate, we will say so.
We do not claim a guaranteed coating lifespan, thermal performance, energy savings or waterproofing from the membrane. The honest purpose is appearance and a sealed surface on a roof that already suits the work.
When colour restoration may be appropriate
These are appearance and condition signs. Suitability still depends on the roof underneath.
- Faded or patchy colour The tiles have weathered to an uneven colour and you want a consistent finished look from the street.
- The roof has been cleaned, or needs to be A coating needs a clean surface. If dirt and growth are still on the tiles, that work comes first.
- The covering is otherwise sound Tiles, pointing and flashings are in a condition that makes a finish worthwhile rather than a waste.
- Part of a planned restoration Repairs and pointing are already in the scope, and a coating is being considered as the finishing stage.
- You want the roof to match the house again The walls, garden or renovation have moved on and the covering is the element that still looks tired.
What roof coating and colour restoration involve
The coating is the visible finish. The preparation underneath is what makes it worth doing.
Preparation is most of the job: tiles repaired, pointing sound, surface cleaned back to the tile. Then a primer and two coats of roof membrane are applied in the agreed colour, where the roof suits that system.
Colour choice is part of the conversation. The coating is there to restore an even finish, not to hide defects that should have been repaired first.
If the tiles are not a candidate - too far gone, the wrong profile, or a covering that would be better replaced - we will recommend against coating rather than sell one anyway.
